Gun Safety Rules
- All guns are ALWAYS loaded.
- Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
- Keep your finger OFF the trigger until your sights on the target.
- IDENTIFY your target and know what is beyond.
Unfortunately in today's world we cannot expect others to have common sense and responsibility so here are our
Terms and Conditions
By registering, purchasing, and/or attending any classes or services provided by Talon Firearms Training (TFT) you acknowledge that handguns and live ammunition will potentially, and likely, be used and discharged by yourself and others. It would be a rare case that firearms and live ammunition would not be used in a TFT class or presentation.
You acknowledge that firearms and ammunition and their use are potentially dangerous.
You acknowledge that there will be other class participants or associates of TFT that may/will be using firearms and live ammunition and TFT does not guarantee your safety. If everyone abides by the Gun Safety Rules, listed on this website and at other locations, the chances of firearm negligence is minimized, but it is not a zero chance.
You acknowledge that you will abide the the gun rules and any other valid instructions or practices.
You acknowledge that, while minimized, a negligent or intentional discharge may occur and there is a possibility of damage, injury, or death to yourself or other persons or property.
By your participation in the class, or other services rendered, you acknowledge that you will hold harmless TFT, Onion Shed Enterprises, LLC (OSE), any owners, employees, volunteers, or family members of TFT or OSE in the event of any damage, injury, loss of time or revenue, mental stress or grieving, or death to you or your property caused by, but not limited to, firearms, ammunition, curriculum, equipment, personnel, facility, travel, or any other item or person, property, facility, owned, employed, volunteering, rented, or otherwise under the control of TFT or OSF.
By registering, purchasing, and/or attending any classes or services provided by TFT you acknowledge that your spouse, significant other, children, friends, enemies, neighbors, relatives, or any other of your associates understand that you will be using firearms and ammunition, as well as others around you, and will hold harmless TFT and OSE from any liability already stated, or unstated, above.
By registering, purchasing, and/or attending any classes or services provided by Talon Firearms Training (TFT) you acknowledge that you may be denied or removed from any class, or any other service, if, at the sole discretion of TFT personnel, you become disruptive or become a safety hazard to others or yourself. You acknowledge that your dismissal will be immediate and there will be no refund of tuition.
Cancellations and Refunds
Payment for any class or service is due at registration. TFT will not hold places in class without full payment.
Please be sure of your commitment prior to registering for a class. By registering you acknowledge you have read, and agree to, the class information, description, prerequisites, and equipment needed. Our classes often sell out early and anyone on a waiting list cannot make last minute schedule changes to attend. This incurs costs as we must arrange for instructors, equipment, and supplies based on the number of participants.
Classes will be held rain, wind, or shine as long as conditions are not hazardous. It is required of the participant to bring the necessary clothing, equipment, and supplies to be comfortable and safe during the class. A participant that leaves the class at any time, for any reason, is not due a refund. If inclement weather should momentarily interrupt a class, the class will be extended a proper amount of time to fulfill the curriculum. Any classes that may be the same day may start late. You should not schedule any pressing business the day of the class in the event class times must be adjusted. TFT is not liable for interruptions to your schedule. In the event TFT must reschedule a class, and the student cannot make the rescheduled date, the student will receive a full-refund in as timely of a fashion as possible.
Class tuition is non-refundable but may be applied as class credit for future classes. Class credit is valid for 3 years and is non-transferrable. Cancellations prior to 14 days before the scheduled class date will receive full, non-transferrable credit that may be applied to a future class. Cancellations less that 14 days will incur a 1/3 non-refundable payment to TFT. The remaining 2/3 will be applied as non-transferrable credit for a future class valid for 3 years. Cancellations within 24 hours of the day, and "no shows" the day of the class without prior notification to TFT are subject to forfeit the entire tuition (The day begins at 0000 hours). Any last minute cancellations should be phoned to Mike Hill (806-939-1650) at reasonable hours.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their physician regarding lead and noise exposure prior to attending a live fire course.
Equipment
It is the student's responsibility to have the appropriate equipment for the specific class they are attending. 2/3 class credit refund will be provided in the event the student cannot participate in the class due to a lack of suitable equipment. See Equipment Examples below for examples.
Range and Facilities
The participant acknowledges that the range and facility is unpaved and may have uneven or rough, unfinished surfaces. Participants that are handicapped or have limited mobility may have difficulty or be unable to fully participate. Participants release TFT and OSF from any liabilities for use of the facilities or range.
Photography and video
Recordings
Students may not make audio or video recordings of classes or range sessions. TFT reserves all rights to any and all audio and video recordings.
If you have any questions regarding these Terms and Conditions contact Mike Hill at 806-939-1650 prior to registering for a class.
If a provision of these Terms and Conditions is or becomes illegal, invalid, or unenforceable in any jurisdiction, that shall not affect:

Equipment
It is the student's responsibility to have the appropriate equipment for the specific class they are attending. 2/3 class credit refund will be provided in the event the student cannot participate in the class due to a lack of suitable equipment. See Equipment Examples below for examples.
- Handgun - All shooting classes require a properly functioning modern handgun. Semi automatics are recommended.
- Spare magazines - At least two (2) spare magazines should be brought to range classes (not Basic, Fundamentals, or LTC). Additional magazines are good to have if you have a magazine malfunction.
- Ammunition - Ammunition in the caliber of the handgun, in quantities ample for the class, will be supplied by the student.
- Holsters - Some classes require a holster. The holster is required to be outside the waistband (OWB), attached strongside to the belt, of a material that allows one-handed smooth re-holstering (Kydex or supported leather), and actively or passively retains the handgun during activities. Nylon and Blackhawk Serpa (or other index finger release) holsters are not allowed. (IF you need any persuasion regarding the Serpa spend some time here https://www.activeresponsetraining.net/the-serpa-compendium )
- Magazine holsters or carriers - You should have the ability to carry at least two spare magazines on your offside belt. Holster manufactures also make magazine holsters. (Not necessary for Basic, Essentials, or LTC classes)
- Ear protection - Ear protection is required on the range. Over-the-ear muffs are recommended. Electronic muffs are highly recommended as they allow you to hear range instruction and commands easily. Foam insert ear protection are allowed.
- Eye protection - Eye protection is required on the range. Impact resistant glass or polycarbonate lenses are required. Glasses or goggles are allowed.
- Hat - A baseball-style cap with a brim that allows earing protection to be worn properly is required.
- Clothing - Clothing appropriate for the weather conditions and likely conditions are necessary to provide comfort and limit distraction. Footwear should be sturdy and closed-toe. Light hiking boots, sneakers, or similar appropriated footwear is required. Shirts with low necklines are discouraged. A strong belt, preferably a designed gun belt, is highly recommended.
- Other equipment may be required and is beyond these Terms and Conditions. Participant agrees to provide any additional personal equipment required for a specific class.
- Restroom - A restroom is available onsite.
- Structures - There is no formal classroom facility onsite. A open-air covered structure is available for shelter. In the event of a tornado, a small storm shelter is available. It will be cozy if there are very many bodies.
- Water will be readily available. The participant is responsible for bringing any other food, beverage, or refreshments. There is no vending onsite and the nearest point of purchase is 20 minutes away. If a participant is taking a morning and afternoon class on the same day they should bring a lunch.
- The TFT range is located approximately 30 minutes from medical services. The staff is First Aid/CPR/Stop the Bleed knowledgeable and first aid/trauma kits are onsite. Personal medications, pain relievers, allergy meds should be brought and are not available at classroom or range locations.
- There are no retail sales at the range. Please bring all necessary equipment and supplies.
Photography and video
- Students may take photos and/or videos of themselves, their party, or TFT instructors. Students are not allowed to take identifiable photos or videos of other students in class.
- TFT reserves the right to take photos and/or videos of classes and students. These photos or videos may be used for promotions, advertising, blogs, social media, or other public venues or publications. If you do not wish your identifiable photo or video to be published you must provide written notice to TFT at the time of class. TFT reserves all rights to images.
- the validity or enforceability in that jurisdiction of any other provision of these Terms and Conditions, or
- the validity or enforceability in other jurisdiction of that or and other provisions of these Terms and Conditions.
This ends the Terms and Conditions
Range Etiquette
- As a youngster I was told "If you're on time, you're late." - Registration will begin 30 minutes prior to range classes. Classes will start at the scheduled time. Most people underestimate the time it takes to get to the range. From the west loop of Lubbock expect it to take at least 20 minutes to arrive at the range.
- License to Carry (LTC) classroom instruction is normally held at Green Lawn Church of Christ, 5701 19th, Lubbock. Class begins at 8:00 with no registration. Show up a little early to get settled in.
- No smoking, vaping, or tobacco use in classroom or range. If you must partake you are welcome to go outside or away from the range facilities. Dry condition exist. Extinguish all butts completely.
- Alcohol and firearms do not mix. Do not consume alcohol prior to class or range sessions. Do not show up hungover.
- Cell phones should be set on silent or vibrate. Texting, email, or web browsing during class is forbidden unless it is an emergency.
- Firearms are to remain holstered or otherwise secured. No handling of firearms in class. LTC students should leave firearms secured in your vehicle.
- Food or beverages consumed during class or range times should not be a distraction.
- Courteous and polite behavior and language are expected at all times.

Holsters
Paddle holsters are very good for range work. A OWB holster with belt loops on either side works well also, providing a stable platform to work from. Holsters with a single belt loop or clip can work but sometimes aren't as stable. You will also note that I didn't include any nylon (not allowed on the TFT range) or leather. Kydex just works so well it's not worth mentioning leather. If you want a leather holster for your BBQ gun then I understand and would join you. For range work and secure everyday carry (EDC) Kydex just works. Just information for you to consider. No Blackhawk Serpa holsters allowed.
There are many other Kydex holster manufacturers. All of them also have magazine carrier options. Personally I prefer getting 2 or 3 single magazine carriers. Single carriers allow me to arrange them on my belt the way I like. That said, I do own dual carriers and they work fine. I carry them occassionally, I just prefer the adjustability of singles. YMMV

Training
One may think it is odd for one trainer to advertise for other trainers. When it comes to training you should train often and with as many quality trainers that you can find. Often times it is hard to get good training because it costs a lot (vacation training like Gunsite or Thunder Ranch) or you have to travel a long ways so you try to stay local. If you have the chance to visit these schools you will be glad you did.
